About us
Growing plants that do well at home
sdfd is a small nursery and shop in Portland, Oregon. We grow houseplants, choose pots we would use ourselves, and ship them across the US.
Our story
- 01
Why we started
Too many houseplants are grown fast under perfect greenhouse conditions, then struggle the moment they reach a real living room. We wanted to sell plants that were already used to ordinary light and ordinary routines.
- 02
How we grow
Our plants spend at least one season on our benches in natural light, in peat-free soil we mix ourselves. We water by hand, check for pests every week and only list a plant once it has put out new growth with us.
- 03
How we pack
We use recycled paper and cardboard, no plastic peanuts. Every box is packed by the people who grew the plant inside it, and we ship early in the week so nothing sits in a warehouse over a weekend.
What we hold ourselves to
- Fewer, better plants. A short list of varieties we know well, rather than hundreds we have never grown.
- Honest care notes. We tell you what a plant really needs, including when it is not right for your space.
- Peat-free, always. Our soil is coir, bark and compost: no peat dug from bogs that took thousands of years to form.
- A real guarantee. If a plant fails in its first 30 days, we replace it or refund it. Just send us a photo.
